A major goal of DS research is to use High-Throughput Sequencing (TnSeq) and a new approach called TnVaccine to understand the bacterial and host factors involved in pathogenesis and immunity to neonatal bacterial meningitis, focusing on <em>Escherichia coli<\/em> K1, and to reveal alternative approaches to current antibiotic treatments, with the prospect of a multivalent vaccine against this pathogen.
